The Last Bookstore presents Carolyn Cohagan and her new novel Time Next, the second book in the harrowing Time Zero trilogy. The series puts a spin on YA dystopia as it explores what would happen if fundamentalists took over New York City. Join us to learn what happens when hero Mina escapes the island of Manhattan only to fall into the hands of the Unbound.
Mina’s adventure continues in this sequel to the award-winning Time Zero. In book one, Mina and her friends narrowly escaped fundamentalist-ruled Manhattan. Now, they’ve been taken in by the Unbound, a modern community that wants to shelter and care for them. Mina, however, becomes increasingly nervous as she and her friends are forced apart, and she’s asked to alter her clothing, behavior, and even her faith. As she struggles to hold onto her identity, she also grapples with her secrets, even as the Unbound endeavor to discover each and every one.
Carolyn Cohagan’s first novel, The Lost Children is a middle grade fantasy which became part of the Scholastic Bookclub and was nominated for a Massachusetts Children’s Book Award. Her young adult novel Time Zero won eight literary honors, including the 2017 Readers Favorite Award and the 2017 International Book Award. She lives in Austin, where she is the founder of Girls With Pens, a creative writing organization dedicated to fostering the individual voices and offbeat imaginations of girls ages 8-14.
