“So, there I was, encased in about ten feet of cement, and walled into the basement of an Ahab’s coffee shop. Being buried alive was just about as much fun as you would think. I couldn’t breathe, couldn’t see, couldn’t move. My skin ached– not just because of the cement, but because the sun was coming up. Terrible as that felt, it was good to know that at least some of my vampiric senses were still firing.”
Having been walled into the basement of a local coffee shop, Pandora Todd aka Dora, distracts herself by reflecting on the circumstances that led her to become a vampire.
After being shot outside a club on her twenty-first birthday, Dora finds herself in the bed of a handsome stranger with a pair of snake-like fangs. Soon Dora is consumed by a hunger for blood and discovers the strange ability to control all things dead, a distinctly un-vampire trait that could land Dora in a grave of her own.
As if the diet change weren’t enough, Dora suffers with conflicted feelings for her Maker and the fact that she accidentally turned her brother into a zombie during a blood frenzy. However, it’s when Dora raises a small army of undead that she attracts the unwanted attention of a rival necromancer. Now she is wrapped up in a plot that will shape her past, present and future.
A darkly comedic take on supernatural vampire fiction, Pandora Syndrome is a story of twenty-something malaise with an eternal twist.
Originally from San Diego, April Wahlin is best known for winning the Fox Reality TV show The Search for the Next Elvira. She works in the Entertainment Industry as an actor and has been a regular stand-in on many TV shows and films, of which she currently works on The Big Bang Theory spin-off, Young Sheldon.
A lover of fairytales and all things nerdy, April self-published her first novel in 2015, a fantasy anthology titled Thirteen Offerings: Stories of Ithiria. Ithiria has tales of unwitting royals who unearth great magic, children who wander into dark woods in search of dark creatures, vampires who discover their origins go deeper than a mere lifestyle change, and sheltered adolescents who find themselves capable of heroic feats. Pandora Syndrome is the first of these Stories of Ithiria to be published in a standalone book. Expect more to come from the World of Ithiria!
