Ye olde Gothic worms its way into many genres and art forms, from horror to architecture to shoes. The books – old and new – have a lasting allure. Everlasting.
It’s very gothic to be a semi-forgotten writer, loitering dangerously in the shadows.
In January, we’re reading Haunted Castles: The Complete Gothic Stories, from Ray Russell, whose “Sardonicus” Stephen King famously called “perhaps the finest example of the modern Gothic ever written”. Even without the publishing support he gave Vonnegut, Bradbury, Matheson, and others, his own work places him high in the canon, with its twisted originality and smothering darkness. This Penguin Classic also has the Guillermo Del Toro foreward.
Do not miss this one, or we’ll wall you up in the catacombs beneath the store.
HOW IT WORKS:
All book clubs require a ticket, and include the book, snacks/bevs, and a dedicated moderator – to keep the discussion on track! All clubs meet at The Last Bookstore.
You can get your ticket (we’ll ship the book to you!) at this link right here – OR just come in to the store and look for our book club display, near the book tunnel. (Remember: you need time to read the book, so get your ticket sooner rather than later.)
If you choose the on-line option (the one with shipping), please send a mailing addy to firstname.lastname@example.org
