Bushwick Book Club: New songs for Chuck Palahniuk’s Legacy: An Off-Color Novella for You to Color

7:30 p.m.

The Bushwick Book Club L.A. Chapter is thrilled to present a show in celebration of and inspired by Chuck Palahniuks new book, Legacy: An Off-Color Novella For You To Color, Illustrated by Mike Norton and Steve Morris. New songs, coloring and snacks in response to the book, let you see, hear and taste what you’re reading.

“Imagine if Joseph Campbell produced a coloring book, said Palahniuk. Legacy will be one part Art Bell, one part Carl Jung, part George Noory, and right brain from cover to cover. All cultures have their myths about attaining immortality, but Dark Horse, Mike, Steve and I are the first to slap such high culture anthropology into the low culture world of coloring.”

“Each reader will bring his or her final details to the story, said Palahniuk. When colored, each book will be a one-off piece of collaborative art worth keeping for the ages!”

7:30 pm – BYO crayons to collaborate with Pahlaniuk’s newest work and first long form prose publication since the release of his novel Beautiful You in 2014.

8pm – NEW ORIGINAL SONGS inspired by the book will be performed by songwriters from both coasts! BBC LA founder, Stacy Rock performs along with other regular contributors to the L.A. Chapter. Writer, musician, Deenah Vollmer (Pizza Underground) and songwriter Nicole Tourtelot also perform. BBC founder Susan Hwang and producer, Charlie Nieland are coming in from Brooklyn to perform their new book-inspired song as their duo, Lusterlit (lusterlit.com). Also performing will be Brooklyn recording artist and frequent contributor to Bushwick Book Club, Jessie Kilguss.

Let us know you’re coming.

In his first long-form fiction since Beautiful You in 2014, the author of Fight Club and Choke delivers another biting social satire in this riches-to-rags novella! This hardcover edition features beautiful colorable illustrations by Steve Morris (Buffy the Vampire Slayer), who worked on Palahnuik’s Bait: Off-Color Stories for You to Color, and Mike Norton (Revival, Battlepug), with a cover by another Bait collaborator, Duncan Fegredo (Hellboy). Legacy is sure to engage readers with its boundary pushing story-telling while challenging their creative side through its visionary and twisted colorable imagery.

An amoral investment banker named Vincent receives an inheritance promising immortality. Unfortunately for Vincent to obtain imortality he has to contend with a flame-retardant stripper, a ruthless stalker, and a bloodthirsty horde of other aspiring immortals dead set in their desire to separate Vincent from his destiny.

Chuck Palahniuk was born in 1962 in Pasco, Washington. Palahniuk faced early rejection for his dark and satiric writing, but persevered to write Fight Club, which was published in 1996. The 1999 film version of the novel, which starred Brad Pitt and Edward Norton, shot Palahniuk into the spotlight. He remains a popular author whose other novels include Choke (2001), Lullaby (2002) and Damned (2011).
