We are honored to celebrate Black History Month at The Last Bookstore with an incredible lineup of Los Angeles writers, including Shonda Buchanan, Rachel Harper, Dana Johnson, Lia Langworthy, Michelle Maltais, Jonathan Tipton Meyers, Chris Terry, Rebecca Walker and more, as they rise up against injustice through their words, leaving an indelible record of resistance.
Since the 2016 election, when Angels Flight • literary west launched an emergency, ongoing “Wall of Resistance” issue, our goal has been to create a wall of stories that will serve as a beacon of humanity in the face of recklessly hateful and dangerous actions and rhetoric. Black History Month is a time to proudly recognize the achievements of African Africans. This year, it’s necessary to renew our resistance to the intolerable racism espoused by the President of the United States and his supporters, and continue to shine a light on #BlackLivesMatter. We aim to reach deep within to tell stories that bind us together.
As Michelle Obama famously said, “When they go low, we go high.” We’re going to take you higher as we fortify our “Wall of Resistance” together, in a community of writers. Join us!
